Roger Brinès Occasion Dress

A rare piece from London designer Roger Brines, this early 1960s dress is a masterclass in graphic elegance. Brines, known for dressing members of British high society—including Princess Margaret—infused his work with a quiet sophistication that set him apart from flashier contemporaries.
According to fashion commentator Colin McDowell in the 1980s and 90s Princess Margaret would visit Roger Brinès’s atelier in London to buy clothes.
The sculptural neckline extends into a built-in scarf that drapes fluidly down the back, ending in a flourish of hand-cut fringe. Cleverly designed, the scarf conceals the rear zip, adding architectural softness to the otherwise clean silhouette. The fabric—a richly textured navy and ivory print—is crisply tailored through the bodice with gentle gathers at the waist. Below, the skirt releases into sharp pleats that create quiet movement as you walk. It’s a piece that balances structure and ease, drama and discretion—capturing the spirit of British mid-century design from a name that deserves rediscovery.
