John Cavanagh was an Irish couturier of the 1950s and 1960s. A member of the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers, his style has been described as reflecting Parisian chic. He designed the wedding dresses for the Duchess of Kent in 1961 and for Princess Alexandra in 1963.

John Cavanagh opened his own couture house in London in 1952, after working for both Edward Molyneux and Pierre Balmain. From his designs, it is obvious that he has incorporated the techniques he learned at these two houses into his creations. Perhaps, he is most known for his "Coronation" collection, designed in 1953 and worn by Lady Cornwallis to the Coronation celebrations.

This is a beautiful example of his understated elegance in a colour tone of green and yellow.
